This documentary details the struggles of Jews in the German city of Danzig to survive the brutal assault of the Nazis. All but approximately one hundred Danzig Jews escaped the Nazi terror because local synagogue leaders made the unprecedented move of selling their religious artifacts; the money gained from this sale was used to finance the immigration of the entire community.
The film documents an exhibit exhibit of Danzig's religious treasures, reclaimed and stored at the Jewish Museum in New York City. Interviews with the survivors, along with film footage from 1939 and photographs of the lost community, paint an unforgettable portrait of a courageous people who managed to save their lives and part of their history from the murderous Nazi regime.
